Days Of Long Ago

If I could but return to those days of long ago
When we frist started our life together
The many thing we learned about each other
The fun we found as traved down the road of life
The love that we shared
The joy we found along the way
I dreaded the day I find myself in today
I'm glad you went first
Only because I know you would feel the pain I do
And I would not be there to care for and comfort you
We shared many happy years together
They will always be a treasure in my heart
Fifty five years brought great happiness
I wish we could have had fifty five more
Our sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren
Try to comfort me
But thier love and comfort
Can not replace that, which we shared together
Some say we will see each other again
If I could only believe that
I only ask, show me the proof
Until then my heart will continue to ache
My tears will continue to flow
For the one I have loved for those many long years
